Empowering Women through Sports and Education to transform communities lives.
AKWOS-Organization of women in sport is non-profit organization created in 1998 with a legal personality no 64/11 of 20/04/2009.
is to empower and uplift East-African Women, starting from Rwanda, through the transformative power of sports and Education.
is to achieve a society where all forms of discrimination based on gender have been eradicated, where women participate fully in political and economic decision-making and conflict resolution and where women’s rights are respected. We believe that every woman and girl have the potential to achieve greatness, and we're dedicated to providing opportunities that help them reach their full potential.
Gender equality, also known as sexual equality or equality of the sexes, is the state of equal ease of access to resources and opportunities regardless of gender, including economic participation and decision-making; and the state of valuing different behaviors, aspirations and needs equally, regardless of gender.
In every conflict that arises in any society, women and children are the most prone and vulnerable because they are ignorantly and innocently used in conflicts by the selfish social change minded movements.
Historically, women’s participation in sports has been discouraged due to several barriers. Those barriers are usually divided into three categories: A major socio-cultural and economic barrier is the main AKWOS idea that sport is masculine and elitist. Practical barriers include poverty and scarcity of economic means.
AKWOS will use CHI to focus on equitable gender roles, prevention of HIV/AIDS and STDs/STIs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases/ Sexually Transmitted Infections); promotion and empowerment of women in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
